Iceland is an island nation in the Northern Atlantic famous for its many volcanoes and glaciers, earning it the name "land of fire and ice." It has 130 volcanoes, while meltwater flowing from some of its numerous glaciers forms the Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe.
Iceland was the first country worldwide to elect a female president in 1980. A testament to their democracy, Icelanders have the world's most gender-balanced legislature. It is, therefore, a contrasting surprise that Iceland has some of the most baffling laws ever. For instance, only government-owned stores are permitted to resale liquor while boxing is prohibited. Keeping a pet turtle, snake or lizard is also illegal.
